The Independent Evaluations Office (IEO) of UNDP has launched a new online National Evaluation Capacities (NEC) Information Centre accessible at https://nec.undp.org. The platform was developed as part of the IEO’s strategy to support the building and strengthening of national evaluation capacities for systematic review and follow-up of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The implementation of the SDGs can be accelerated globally through evaluation, as a powerful tool that improves public accountability and contributes to positive development change. Despite progress, insufficient evaluation capacities and systems are challenges shared by most countries.
The NEC Information Centre is a globally and publicly available interactive platform. It contains useful, consolidated and userfriendly resources on national evaluation systems organized by country. The key objectives of the platform are to:
- provide key resources on national evaluation capacities.
- promote sharing of knowledge and information at local, regional and global levels, allowing countries to compare and learn from one another, increasing the interest and demand for effective evaluations.
- provide a repository on the NEC Conferences, to better identify national needs and capacities, country contexts and existing enabling environments for national evaluation capacities.
